It is located on a small and luch hill, above Senio river.<\/p>\n<p>The old part of the town story begins in fourteenth century, with the building of strong walls around the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imolafaenza.it\/en\/what-to-do\/sforza-fortress-of-riolo-terme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fortress<\/a>. The more recent part extends towards the majestic Parco delle Terme, a perfect \u201cfin de si\u00e8cle\u201d park.<\/p>\n<p>The name Riolo comes from \u201cRio Doccia\u201d, a modest watercourse running close to the Fortress. For more than two centuries, the river was called \u201cRiolo Secco\u201d, meaning small dry river.<\/p>\n<p>In 1914, because of the therapeutic characteristics of the waters springs in the surrounding area, the name Riolo dei Bagni was adopted.
