Mordano is located in the ancient “Moretano”, the plain east of Bologna.
The layout of the territory, in the Municipality of Mordano, has been preserved over the centuries. The Romans, at their settlement, more than two thousand years ago, carried out reclamation works, leveling the land and regulating the water with the construction of roads and ditches according to the centuriation system.
In Emilia-Romagna, the decumanus always refers to the Via Emilia, the cardo in the Imola countryside is represented by the Via Selice.
In the countryside of Mordano, the grids of the centuriation are still visible when examining the roads, ditches and drainage channels.
