The Sagra del Marrone di Castel del Rio is held every Sunday from October 4th to 25th.
The center of the village hosts the traditional chestnut market, with exhibitions of products and technical conventions. Also scheduled are conferences and interesting evenings where history and culture merge with gastronomy.
It is possible to taste the local delicacies both in the stands set up in the square and in the numerous local restaurants. There are many local dishes in which chestnuts are the main ingredients. Just to name a few you can taste the castagnaccio, the chestnut-flour polenta, the roasted chestnuts, capaltaz, pancakes and chestnut truffles.
Many menus re-introduce the typical dishes from the poor mountain cuisine, when chestnuts were the only ingredient available on the table of the numerous poor families, since the Middle Ages.
Today these dishes have been combined with others, and some new ones have even been created from the imaginations of chefs and restaurateurs who have been able to adapt the flavors of this particular product to the tastes of our time.
On Sunday, October 11th the traditional Magnus Day, dedicated to the great author who died in 1996, will be held.
