2018, a year filled with activities at the MIC

Three first class exhibits are arriving at Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche di Faenza (International Ceramics Museum): Lenci, the International Contemporary Ceramic Biennial and pre-Columbian ceramics.

“A healthy museum, with its own identity and planning, the likes of which in Italy no longer exists “. With these words, Massimo Isola, Deputy Mayor of Faenza, commented on the lively 2018 calendar of the MIC – International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza, presented yesterday during a press conference.

Exhibits at the MIC for 2018

Numerous and important activities are scheduled, starting with three prestigious exhibitions:

  • from March 4 to June 3, 2018 the exhibition “Lenci, costume e Bon ton”, an exhibition of small plastic and decorative sculptures that made a fortune for the historical manufacturer Lenci, which started with the production of cloth and dolls, but since 1927 has been in the ceramic sector; the ceramics are inspired by fashion magazines, captivating and mischievous, and giving a taste of bourgeois society between the ’30s and’ 40s
  • from June 30th to October 7th 2018 the International Contemporary Ceramic Biennial as a special edition of the 60th Faenza Prize; international critics will select the most innovative contemporary art researchers that have chosen to work with ceramics, with five artists representing each nation
  • from November 11th, 2018 to February 10th, 2019 the great exhibition ” Precolombiane: ceramiche, l’altra faccia dell’America (Pre-Columbian: ceramics, the other side of America)”; the MIC has the largest Italian collection of pre-Columbian ceramics, the second largest in Europe, with fascinating records from the Peruvian area (Nasca and Chimu cultures), from Mexico (Teotihuacan, Aztec, Mixtecan, Maya cultures), Costa Rica and Brazil.
And then…

The MIC Argillà Italia initiatives (August 31st – September 2nd), the biennial market exhibition that this year will be hosted in Germany. It will be filled with a rich cultural program that will include events, exhibitions and conferences; the second edition of Superfici d’Autore, an exhibition on the latest industrial ceramic design productions in conjunction with Cersaie and Tecnargilla; then in October, the Settimana del Contemporaneo, a mini-festival that collects the best contemporary art projects in the city, which MIC participates with a personal exhibition of ceramic paintings and sculptures by Alessandro Roma.

The museum space…

In 2018 the MIC space will be enriched by the Project Room, a room located at the beginning of the Faenza Renaissance path, which will be used to present events concerning the museum such as restorations, acquisition of new collections, donations, publications. 2018 should also see the renovation of the library should end and the ancient reading room with wooden furniture designed by Ennio Golfieri will once again be accessible.
