Travel in virtual reality with geoVR

In Imola the first Italian presentation of geoVR, a virtual platform developed by a Norwegian team to travel among UNESCO sites with a pair of 3D glasses.

The first Italian implementation of the Norwegian project

A new way to travel virtually was presented for the first time in Italy in Imola, at the IF Imola Faenza Tourism Company’s headquarters, on December 5th. During the public display the team of Norwegians from Doublethink and Magma Geopark demonstrated the geoVR project: the virtual networking of geoparks and UNESCO sites that can be visited by wearing special 3D headsets. With these you can immerse yourself in remote, spectacular, sometimes inaccessible places and enjoy experiences such as climbing a cliff in Northern Europe, walking in the middle of a blizzard or even witnessing the eruption of a volcano!

Information with images

Now not just 360-degree images, but informative content – such as captions, animations or reconstructions – can be connected anywhere to transform the virtual journey into a moment of discovery and learning.

A growing project

The geoVR project is in a phase of expansion. It is looking with interest at Italian cultural and cultural heritage: The International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza, which has obtained UNESCO recognition as a “monument to a culture of peace” with the title “Expression of ‘ceramic art in the world”, the future digital museum of the Autodromo internazionale di Imola and the Parco della Vena del Gesso Romagnola, a candidate to become a world heritage site of humanity.
