Sagra del Raviolo takes place in Casalfiumanese on the Sunday nearest to 19th March, initially in conjunction with Saint Joseph’s cattle Fair, which dates back to 1738. It was a chance for the whole town to celebrate with rich meals and the Count Alessandretti decided to include children in the celebrations by distributing raviolo biscuits. Nowadays, the fair no longer exists but Raviolo Festival survives.
In this day, raviolo biscuits, the typical sweet biscuits filled with jam and covered in liquor-flavoured sugar, are thrown from the town towers to the crowd. The atmosphere is completed by live entertainment, pageants and floats, all of this under the alert eye of the so-called “Conte Raviolone”, a character created to entertain the crowd waiting for the distribution of raviolos.
This year, another day joins the celebration: Saturday 23rd March is the “Night Before Raviolo”, with live music and local food.
